Below is a list of websites and descriptions that will help social studies teachers incorporate technology into the classroom.

World History

Photo History
View photo collections from different time periods and events. Photos include all world events and are also separated into categories that are especially engaging to students such as Fabulous Fashion and The Facial Hair Through Time Collection. There are also some video clips included.

European Virtual Museum
This site allows you to explore several European museums filled with artifacts virtually.

Online Hieroglyphics Translator
This site is useful if you are studying ancient Egypt. It allows students to type in a phrase and it will translate it into hieroglyphics.

World History Research
This site allows you to explore many world history topics to conduct research, view timelines and images.

World History Lesson Plans
This site contains lesson plans for teaching a variety of World History topics in middle school and high school.

An Eyewitness to History
This site is excellent for both World History and United States History. It allows you to explore eyewitness accounts of many events. Students can read about the events from firsthand accounts and view images.


United States History

National Archives
The National Archives will give students the opportunity to explore documents and conduct research from primary sources.

Activities Using the National Archives
This site provides teachers with activities and lesson plans that use documents from the National Archives.

History in Pictures
This site allows you to view images from history all archived and searchable by subject matter.

Demographic History of The United States
This site gives a demographic history of the United States from 1790-2000. This site provides many charts, maps, and graphs to incorporate into your lessons as well.

This site allows you to explore timelines in a variety of subjects. In some cases it includes video, description and images to correspond with the dates.

Drawing on Google Maps
This site allows you to draw on Google Maps and then print or export the files. It is easy enough that students can do it too!

A reliable source for printing your own maps to use with students. There is also an interactive map feature.

The CIA factbook is a reliable source for students to research and gather information about places all over the world.


Video History

History.com Short Video Clips
This site features short video clips from all sorts of history topics. Many of the topics can be viewed in larger format on DVD and on the television's history channel. The only drawback to this this site is commercials play before the video begins.

Virtual Field Trip
This site contains a variety of short video clips that allow you to explore famous cities and places virtually.
